IP Reputation

What is IP Reputation?

IP reputation is a risk assessment assigned to an IP address or network range from observed history, ownership, traffic patterns and threat intelligence.

English name, abbreviation and common aliases

  • English name: IP Reputation
  • Common aliases: IP trust score, IP risk score

How does IP Reputation work?

A service combines historical abuse reports, hosting or residential classification, geolocation, ASN , request velocity and its own telemetry into a score or category. Scores differ between providers and change over time.

A concrete example

A newly assigned proxy IP has no obvious local issue, but repeated automated abuse recorded by a destination causes additional challenges or login review.

An IP address is a network locator. Reputation is an external judgment about that locator; ASN identifies the network that announces the route.

Use cases, benefits and risks

Typical uses include proxy selection, routing diagnostics, session continuity and regional consistency checks. Benefits depend on accurate configuration. Shared infrastructure, stale reputation data, unnecessary rotation and split routing can instead increase failures or expose unexpected signals.

How does DuoPlus help manage IP reputation issues?

DuoPlus lets users add and test a proxy per cloud phone and configure related regional parameters from its IP, helping catch unreachable or malformed proxies before use. DuoPlus does not sell proxies and cannot create, clean or guarantee an IP’s reputation. Proxy source, sharing, history and stability remain the responsibility of the user and proxy provider.

Frequently asked questions

Does passing the proxy test mean the IP has a good reputation?

No. The proxy test primarily checks connectivity and configuration; it does not mean a destination trusts the IP. Reputation databases and platforms can reach different results.

Does frequently changing proxies improve IP reputation?

Not necessarily. A new IP may also have poor history, and frequent changes can disrupt session consistency. Prefer a transparent, region-appropriate and stable proxy and follow the destination’s rules.
